In November we learned about “The Restaurant” and we opened our own pizza restaurant in the classroom. The service was always excellent J . We learned about food and created our own breakfast cereals with their own unique names and box designs. We did some fruit and vegetable printing-some of us even tasted the printing foods! We created 3 course menus in pairs and made some mini pop up restaurants in the small world area. This theme made us all hungry! We had great fun in the classroom at Halloween! We made a lot of scary potions in our witches’ potions labs. We played Halloween games and made marshmallow monster eyeballs (we gobbled them up!). We tasted bairín breac and dressed up in our best costumes-teacher didn’t know she had in the classroom! We played haunted house and searched for spiders, skeletons and witches fingers in our sensory activities. Scary stuff…. We did some travelling in November when we set up an airport in the classroom. We had people working on the front desk and in security and we enjoyed taking off on the plane in the hallway. Some people’s luggage had to get a “heavy” sticker. Of course we had to make passports for our trips. We played with our lovely new wooden airport in small world and we explored how to make paper airplanes and had great fun flying them in the classroom. In junk art we made anything we liked connected to the airport, all of our airplanes were very creative. We had great fun during our first Aistear of the year! In small world we had many accidents that had to be rushed to hospital (some even involving dinosaurs!). We set up our doctor's surgery which was very busy with all types of ailments. We made flowers for people who may be sick in hospital and made hospitals and doctor's surgeries with our construction materials. We had great fun finding the doctor's equipment in the sand and using our syringes and droppers in the water.
Wishing all our pupils, families, staff and readers a happy St. Patrick's Day. This year is different, but we are thinking of you all and wishing you a lovely day. Have lots of fun!
Our senior pupils often work with and care for younger pupils in the school. On World Book Day Rang 6 read to Rang 1 and Rang 2. The children loved this friendly, cosy experience. Rang 2 later read their own stories to Junior Infants. Thank you all for contributing to the happiness and joy of World Book Day.
Maybe you thought you saw Wally in school when we celebrated World Book Day on Friday 6th March? Yes! We can confirm that Wally was in attendance that day. (Marked on the roll, according to Maeve!) Wally loves books and his message is 'Keep reading and enjoying books as much as possible.'
