Summary of Code of Behaviour
(School Code of Behaviour document is available from the school office)
Every student and member of staff has the right to enjoy and benefit from having a positive and co-operative school atmosphere.
Frequent and open communication is important in building good relationships between home and school.
Parents/guardians will be kept well informed, both when students are behaving particularly well, and when students are experiencing difficulties.
A positive approach will be used to encourage students to behave appropriately in school.
A child behaves well when he/she feels good about him/herself. It is the policy of this school to promote a sense of good self-esteem in each individual.
Rules are kept to a minimum and always positively stated in terms of what students should do. The overall responsibility for discipline within the school rests with the principal. Each teacher has responsibility for the maintenance of discipline within the classroom, while sharing a common responsibility for good order within the school. Early contact with be made with a student’s parent/guardian when a concern arises.

· to encourage the student to choose more appropriate behaviour
· to agree consequences for any future misbehaviour.
Consequences for misbehaviour will be respectful, reasonable, related:
· Time-out in the classroom or in another supervised area.
· Loss of privileges.
· The teacher and/or student will discuss escalating or serious misbehaviour (including bullying) with the principal, and contact with parents/guardians will be planned.
· An action plan (including an esteem-building programme) will be drawn up in consultation with the student, parent/guardian and other relevant staff.
· Counselling support and/or psychological assessment will be included in an action plan if it is agreed that it would be important for the student.
· If there are repeated instances of serious misbehaviour, the advice of the chairperson of the Board of Management will be sought.
