Art, Crafts, Creativity and Fun!
Enjoy this display of some of our recent art and crafts. Due to social distancing, the slideshow contains photos of only one corner of the school. We look forward to sharing more of our work with you at a future date. Now that pupils have to stay at home for a few weeks, who knows what wonderful art work they will create. Enjoy being creative girls and boys!
Autumn Aistear! Ms. Ryan's Junior Infants October 2019
In October we learned a lot about Autumn. We went on an Autumn nature trail around the school, it was great fun. We collected loads of Autumn bits. We read the story of "The Little Red Hen", so of course we baked our own bread. Yummy! We made playdough hedgehogs and made a safe place for them to hibernate under some leaves we collected. We made large leaf hedgehogs also. Construction was fun because we designed parks and playgrounds. Our slides were very cool. We really enjoyed looking for conkers and acorns in our sand and glitter soil.
Whoopee! What a wonderful World Book Day!
World Book Day 2020 was fun from start to finish. We dressed as characters (wait until you see!). We shared stories (in our classrooms and also to younger classes). We tuned in to the 'Biggest Book Show on Earth' at Assembly and we heard and read stories in the specially created Story Room. Other exciting activities took place in our classrooms (check the photos) . What a day!
Creative Constructions
Task: To construct a setting and a character/characters for a story or film.
Construction is always a popular and creative part of our Art programme. Gathering the materials can take time and the building itself usually takes a few classes. It can be messy and untidy, but we think it's worth it! The group work was fun and we were pleased with our finished products.
Christmas Capers
December is a busy month as pupils and staff prepare to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus. It is a time of fun, joy and anticipation. Rang 6 enjoyed a day of 'Elf Workshops' and art and craft lessons. On Friday 20th December Rang 5 and Rang 6 finished the term in style with a fun (and sometimes challenging!) table quiz.

Learning a new Craft
Melanie is a craft-maker who works with wheat. We were delighted when she visited our class in June to teach us about old Irish customs and traditions, especially harvest customs. Melanie brought these customs and traditions to life as she taught us how to make items such as harvest knots and love hearts. Working with wet wheat was a new experience for us all, and although it seemed tricky at first, with Melanie’s help we made good progress. Pair-work helped us too!
Melanie has a large collection of unusual straw items from around the world and she told us lots of interesting facts about them. We had great fun trying on the Straw Boy costumes. Thank you to the ‘Heritage in School Scheme’ and Ms. Conway for treating us to such a great day. We brought our lucky charms and love hearts home as souvenirs.
