Safety
The school Board of Management is concerned for the safety of all students. In order to ensure the keeping safe of all children, your on-going co-operation is requested with the following:
Early morning safety in the playgrounds: Please do not drop children to school too early in the morning when there is no adult supervision. The playground will be supervised from 8.50 a.m. The school does not have legal responsibility for children on their way to and from school, either walking, on bicycles, in cars or in buses.
Safety at the School Gate: Parents/guardians do not have access to the car parks on the campus. In order to ensure the safety of pedestrians, you are asked not to park or drop off children on the tarmac area outside the gates.
In the interest of safety, the co-operation of all is needed with the following:
Coming from the direction of Irishtown, please do not turn the car at the school gates. Motorists are asked to go to the roundabout, turn and drive back towards school. This applies during peak traffic times of 9:10 am, 1:50 pm and 2:50 pm. Parents/guardians are asked to encourage their children to use the pedestrian entrance if approaching the school from the bus stop/Dungarvan end. Using this entrance means pupils do not have to walk across the staff car park entrance.
School Traffic Warden Crossing: Alice Doyle, school traffic warden, supports students to cross safely when they are dropped off opposite the gate.
Please bring these issues to the attention of child-minders or taxi drivers that may be driving your child to/from school.
Security
All visitors to the school should enter through the main entrance (door facing the road) and report to the secretary’s office. Any non urgent message, e.g. forgotten lunch box, may be left in the office to be delivered to the classroom.
Social Networking Sites
It has come to our attention in school that an increasing number of children, of primary school age, are using social networking sites - Facebook etc. Children of this age really do need guidance from their parents about using these sites. With the extra leisure time that the holidays bring, there will be need for extra supervision by adults if children are on the Internet. There are many good on-line sites that give useful advice to parents.
Attendance
All absences are monitored on a daily basis by the class teacher. Parents/guardians are asked to provide the school with a reasonable account of why a child is absent. If a child’s absence becomes a cause of concern, the school is obliged to report this concern to the Education Welfare Officer assigned to the school. If parents/guardians would like any additional information, our Attendance Policy can be viewed on our school website.
