Active Schools Week 2021

Raising the Active School Flag

The sun shone as we raised our 'Active School' flag on Friday 20th September. Spirits were high as Mrs. Skehan addressed the school and thanked us for taking part in so many activities last year. The Active School Committee led our chant and Mrs. O' Dwyer, our guest for the occasion, raised the flag. It was a proud and exciting moment for all.

We had such an exciting 'Active School Week'! The whole school was moving and grooving for the week. Here are a few photos of the activities we did!

  • Active Schools Week was held from 1st to 5th of October 2018.
  • 6th class did a fantastic presentation at assembly to tell us about the many active skills clubs in our area.  We couldn’t believe how many different clubs there are available for us to join!
  • 5th class challenged the 1st years in the secondary school to a rounders match.
  • 4th class organised funch (fun lunch) – yard play for the younger children.  They had great fun being active!
  • Silva (Rabia Ghous’s mum) volunteered to help out.  She assisted in a pe lesson with Ms Keyes and Mrs Skehan.
  • 2nd to 6th class took on the teachers in Penalties Against Teacher, where children took penalties against their teacher.  The top five children were chosen to go into a competition to take penalties against All-Ireland Medalist Paula O’Connor.
  • We all did a Whole School Dance daily at 1.00, led by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes.
  • Speech and Language classes checked out the local physical activity amenities.  They went on a trip to the Apple Farm, learning about how the apples grow and they played in the playground there.
  • We also did our daily laps, active breaks and PE lessons as usual.

                       What a busy week!
In March, Karen from Kool School Gymnastics Club got together with some pupils in our school, who attend her gymnastics classes.  After a few training sessions, they put on a gymnastics display for us.  This taster session was fantastic to see!  The girls did an outstanding performance along with some of the secondary school pupils.  Well done girls and thank you Karen for your support.  The performance was amazing!!
